FROM THE DESK OF GERALD CHUAH
Date:
Dear Readers,
HAVE you watched Rocky and
felt totally inspired, and you know deep within there is more to it than
just a fictional character in a movie. Something about it rings a bell, lights a fire, and speaks to the truth in your heart to go further and reach higher than you did before.
Well you are not alone, millions of people around the world have been inspired by Stallone and
his famous Rocky series since it made its debut on our cinema screens in 1976. And thousands more have run up the steps of the Philadelphia Art Museum each year, emulating Rocky.
WHAT IS THIS SECRET THAT HAS CAPTURED THE HEARTS OF MILLIONS ?
Here Stallone explains in his own words the motivation behind his film characters:
“I want to give the audience positive symbols, heroines, and heroes who pull themselves up from the depths of despair. As they struggle and claw and finally attain Their goals, viewers can realize, ` My God, I can do that,’ or `That’s the kind of person I want to be.’”
- SYLVESTER STALLONE-
Stallone’s rag-to-riches story and his creation Rocky Balboa have often been quoted by international success gurus
like Anthony Robbins who plays the Rocky theme song in his seminars before the fire walk. Other motivational gurus like Jack Canfield (of Chicken Soup for the Soul series) also use Rocky as
a positive example in his book The Success Principles, so did
Robert G. Allen in his book The One Minute Millionaire.
Now for the first time ever,
this unique book captures the words of wisdom and success principles
from Sylvester Stallone’s life & films. The book is
finally available on the internet to coincide with the premiere of RAMBO on January 25, 2008.
"Everything I am, and everything I have boils down to Rocky Balboa. I didn't create Rocky. He created me."
– SYLVESTER STALLONE
TESTIMONIAL
From left: Kuldeep Singh, Sylvester Stallone and Kim Lloyd George celebrating Thanksgiving Day with Sly and family in California, USA, 2007
"As a woman, I supposed I knew what Sylvester Stallone was all about. He made movies for guys, right? I figured his movies had no message; at least, none that would speak to me. But I was wrong...
After reading Gerald Chuah’s book IN THE EYE OF THE TIGER, I realized this is not a self help book but it is about life and being human.
Life is not easy, and sometimes it is a feat of sheer heroism just to survive it. I got knocked down several times myself and I realized what keeps us alive and what makes us bounce back is a very big message… sometimes even above religions.
The quotes from Mr. Stallone in this book took me by surprise. That's the first thing I noticed when I flipped through the pages, I didn’t realize he said so many positive words to remind us we are all contenders, and we have to keep optimistic and fight the good fight."
- KIM LLOYD-GEORGE a personal friend of Jacqueline Stallone
THIS IS MY STORY
In September 1988 I was sitting in my room all alone just thinking. As I was poring over my life and wondered what the future holds, I asked myself: “What must I do now? How can I get myself out of this rut and make my life real again?”
As I looked at the many Sylvester Stallone posters on my bedroom walls I said: “Stallone has been a great inspiration to my life in moments like this, but will be able to meet him one day and tell him how much he has inspired me."
At that moment, the idea of writing this book was born. “Perhaps as Rocky has been an inspiration to Stallone which sparked his initial success as a writer, then this book is my version of Rocky to deliver me out of my depressing state," I said to myself.
Writing this book
is one of the most exciting journey in my life. I wrote the first draft in seven weeks, but it took me nearly two decades to finally realize this dream.
All these years that I have
been working in isolation there were moments when I thought this idea
may never see the light of day, but I persevered nonetheless.
This being my Real Rocky Challenge I kept the faith and I promise
to see it through.
As Rocky had many sequels, my journey of writing this book came with its own set of obstacles and challenges which put me on a higher ground of self awareness and realization.
There were many highlights
along this journey, of course the main one would be meeting
Sylvester Stallone at the grand opening of Planet Hollywood Singapore on January 22, 1997, and
to finally have Jackie Stallone endorse and launch my book at Borders Times Square, Kuala Lumpur on January 22, 2007 exactly 10 years later
is like Hollywood ending to a life affirming story.
The circumstances leading to my book launch was so incredible
it confirms to me that miracles happen and dreams do exist.
Now that I have finally accomplished this
dream project, I am glad to note that many people around the world
have similar Rocky inspiration (from the testimonials) and know right
from the start what this book is all about, and are supportive of the
idea.
Indeed it is a wonderful feeling to be able
to connect with other people around the world and share this Rocky
inspiration.
If Rocky’s life was a million to one shot then I am one in a million fan who had this incredible
idea about writing a book on Stallone and to finally achieve it many years later proves that:
"Nothing is impossible. If I can do it , you can do it too!”
"The World Meets Nobody Halfway, remember that. You've got to do what's best for you, always do that." – OVER THE TOP
1. Why did you write this book?
“Since young I have felt a `special connection' with Sly. I knew what the Eye of the Tiger
represents, and I could clearly see and understand the survival principles in Stallone's Life & Films which urge audiences to reach out for their dreams and don't look back. Nothing is impossible if
you believe and set your minds to it. There are many positive examples and nuggets of truth from
Stallone's life and film that could impact readers and inspire them to greater heights. This book is my Rocky story to see how far I can go, because Rocky never gave up, and by writing this book and finally fulfilling this dream, proves
to me that nothing is impossible."
2. What does your book talk about?
“This book is unique as it is the first in the world to expound on the concept
and philosophy of the Eye of the Tiger, which represents the Indomitable Spirit of man reminding us to
always Stay Hungry and Stay Natural, and keep focused on the
direction of our dreams,
"Everybody has got dreams but how many
of us dare to believe and reach out for the impossible?,
"This book is unique as it is the first in the world to expound on the Survival Principles from Sylvester Stallone’s Life & Films which offers a complete life guide to every aspect of living from love, faith, courage, dream, determination, wisdom, and spirituality."
3. How is this book different from other self-help books?
There are many self-help books in the market but this one is
different as it takes inspiration from Stallone's famous film characters. For example Rocky is an underdog fighter who
put all his dreams in one shot.
The heart of the champion is reflected in Stallone's earlier blockbuster films such as the Rocky and Rambo series, Over The Top, Lock-Up, and Cobra
which struck a
chord with audience's heart.
They gave us a glimpse of what is possible in life through faith, hope, perseverance and determination. These character-based motivation is far more powerful than any theory
or success formulas. This book is not only a collector's item for Stallone fans but a powerful guide to anyone who wants to make the most out of his or her life.
4. How did you research this book?
Many of the lessons from this book are inspired from Stallone’s blockbuster films from the 80s, while others are
taken from books, magazines, documentaries and the internet.
One powerful reference is the novel Rocky II. Written by Sylvester Stallone himself in 1979, the book contains many powerful insights into the heart of the character.
It was a miracle how I
found this book in a bargain bin of a second hand bookstore. There are many other references which I stumbled upon like rare documentaries and articles which offered a wealth of information
in my research.
"Another unique resource was a box of old newspaper articles
which I found in a newspaper archive. Every news clipping about Stallone, documenting his road to fame
since the 70s was inside that box, including an article in his own words about
the creation of Rocky Balboa which became an overnight success.
5. Who will benefit from this book?
Basically everyone who believes they have the potential to accomplish more in life, and who are willing to go that extra mile to make their wildest dreams
come true. This book will strengthen your core values and principles and keep you in touch with your
higher values and ideals. Most importantly it will help you get back The Eye of the Tiger
to stay hungry and stay focused, and seize your opportunities in life.
6. Where can I buy this book?
At the moment the limited edition hard cover version of this book is only available in bookshops
in Malaysia, and on this website. I am not sure when it will be available for mass circulation, so I suggest
that you grab it fast. This unique book has not been written before and is not available in other parts of the world.
7. What are the highlights of your journey?
My most exciting experience was in meeting Sylvester Stallone in person at the grand opening of Planet Hollywood Singapore on January 22, 1997, and of course to finally launch my book with Jacqueline Stallone (Sylvester's mom) at Borders Times Square, Kuala Lumpur,
exactly 10 years later was simply incredible.
When I asked Jackie to sign the Rocky poster for me, she said: "For you I have to add another line," and she wrote: “Would you believe this day?”
8. What are your future plans for promoting the book and continuing the Rocky legacy.
I want to create a Real Rocky Foundation to inspire people to go the distance with their dreams and I want to highlight their stories in my upcoming book, documentaries and websites,
"I believe the Rocky spirit will never die but continue to live in our hearts and inspire us to the next level. Now that the torch has been passed on to the next generation, the next Rocky is not just another fictional character but you and I taking the lessons, values to the next level.
"I just want to tell you one thing, that I'm proud of ya." - ROCKY III
Author of intl' bestseller "YOU WERE BORN RICH", and teacher of THE SECRET, he has helped people succeed in the area of mind potential for over 40 years, using THE LAW OF ATTRACTION.
"It is a phenomenal book and one that I want to see promoted worldwide." - BOB PROCTOR (teacher of The Secret)
Well this is Bob Proctor from the movie The Secret, and I am taking a look here at Gerald Chuah's book In the Eye of the Tiger on Sylvester Stallone. And what he has done with this, is comparable to what Rhonda Byrne did with The Secret. It is absolutely incredible. He went against all odds... and I guess he asked himself what would Stallone do or what would Rocky Balboa do and he said he'd always go an extra round, and he has done that with this book. IT IS A PHENOMENAL BOOK! And it is one that I want to see that it is promoted worldwide. Congratulations Gerald !

"I think everybody who wants to be successful, rich and famous should read those quotes everyday and practise them." - JACQUELINE STALLONE
I read the book, and every word is true and our whole family live by these rules that's why the world loves us. Well we do, those are very unusual quotes and they are all original. They're all original Sylvester Stallone quotes and it was a miracle how you were able to gather all those quotes and put them together as a book. And I think everybody who wants to be successful, rich, and famous should read those quotes everyday and practice them. Well I do believe there is a past life and I do believe that people get together like this, there is a reason, I do believe it; so I have to say that you put all those quotes together, you knew each other in the past life, and I believe you and Sylvester connected on the other side. I think you were his school teacher cause I don't know how you can remember all these stuff, but every word you said happens to be true and I hear him talk like that everyday.
"Every word is true and our whole family live by these rules."

"I think the reason people love heroes because there is... a RAMBO inside of us, and there is a ROCKY inside of us and we always get emotional because there is a part of me out there... that is like that hero"- BLAIR SINGER
THE BOOK IN THE EYE OF THE TIGER is an important book to read. First of all it is the first book, to my knowledge, in the world that compiles all the lessons of the whole Stallone series of Rocky movies and all the movies, and if you really watch those movies whether they were action oriented or not, they all had deep lessons and consistent lessons in overcoming adversities, bringing out the best in yourself, code of honour, which is something very near and dear to my heart, and the ability to be bigger than you thought you could be.
And I think that the reason it is a great book because as that series now ends, is that not everybody will watch those movies but now that it is in print, that the lessons have been distilled into print, and everybody has the ability to have their own lives touched by the way those movies touched the lives of so many other people, so I highly recommend you read the book!
Heroes are important because it gives us hope of who we could become. I think everybody believes that there is; at least I believe there is a bigger and better person inside of us, so we always think we can be somebody bigger someday so a hero is great because you look out there and you go, “That's who I want to be. I know the part of that, inside of me. So it is not like we idolize the hero, that's not my take, I think the reason people love heroes because there is a part, like there is a Rambo inside of us, and there is a Rocky inside of us and we always get emotional because there is a part of me out there, that's who I want to be, and the reason it is emotional, is because there is a part of us that is like that hero.
Otherwise there would be no emotional connection. But it is kind of like that part of that hero is talking to a part of me, that is the same, and that's why heroes are important. They will do something in a moment, an act of heroism, they will help somebody or they will inspire you, "Wow man, that's really cool, and I admire that, and hopefully there is a part of me that's big enough to be that too, so that's why heroes are important."
"I highly recommend you read the book"
"In my films there is always a happy ending, or one that reeks optimism." –SYLVESTER STALLONE
SYLVESTER STALLONE and his mother were astounded by this book…
Back in 1986, a teenage Malaysian watched John Rambo in First Blood for the first time and experienced an epiphany worthy of the road to Arizona.
Over the next 18 years, Gerald Chuah sifted Stallone's life and work for nuggets of universal truth.
The result is a remarkable assemblage of reflections, aphorisms and homilies built around quotes and outtakes from Stallone's films.
In the Eye of the Tiger stands unique among local publications. Heck, all publications. It can be confidently asserted that nothing remotely like this has ever been done before.
It is the uber-fanzine… It's impossible to categorize. It could find a place in a bookstore's sections on movies, biography, popular culture, self-help, motivation, New Age esoterica and comparative mythology, for heaven's sake.
His frequent transitions from reflection to reportage in comprehensively cataloguing Sylvester Stallone's career add to the boundary-busting, genre-defying nature of this book.
Chuah has penetrated the vacuity of Hollywood to tap the heart within.
- REHMAN RASHID (The New Straits Times Editor/ Author/ Columnist)
YOU KNOW GERALD, I just can't believe that I actually came across your book.It was something like destiny, as you mentioned with Stallone's mom…
I am a big Stallone fan and have read and watched all of his works. I do believe in his Rocky philosophy of "It doesn’t matter how hard you hit, it matters how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done."
I have been searching for a Rocky inspiration for a long time and I googled "Rocky Balboa Inspiration" and you popped up, your story and I would like to live and learn also.
I have been down lately, but I still did not hear the bell. I guess we have the not over till you hear the bell attitude going for us.
More so you than me, I am just really putting all my dreams in this book of yours. I feel that this IS the book that I need in my life now.
I have had a few bumps and bruises lately and can use some ROCKY GUIDANCE. I am a firm believer in the ROCKY PHILOSOPHY about never giving up.
I just read the first chapter from you website (twice!!). I really enjoyed it. I am going to read it again till the book comes in. I am reading it until it is going to be "Second Rocky Nature" within myself. Thanks a lot Gerald. I can't wait to read the WHOLE book.
Gerald, I am hoping to capture the true meaning of "Stallonism" as you put it. And, the only way to do it starts with your book. After reading and re-reading and re-reading, absorbing and then living your words, I am sure that I will be ready to take on all challengers in life. I can't wait for this. It has come at a time in my life now that I feel down but I still did not hear the bell. I am hanging in there as best as I can.
Like Stallone said in "Rocky Balboa": "The world is a cruel place and it will knock you down and keep you there if you let it". Anybody can write a book about success stories after they are successful. Try writing a book about how to get there, like you did, and never stop moving forward. THAT IS A BOOK!!!
Thanks again Gerald for writing the book. Well, I guess you have touched lives of many who cross your path and "Stallonism" is one of your greatest gifts to give back to all of us "Rocky's" all over the world.
I pray for you ultimate success with it and everything that you do in life.
Gerald, you are an inspiration to all the "Rocky's" in the world… Thanks a lot for giving this Rocky museum stairs to run.
Great job... !

Dear Gerald,
I FIRST SAW ROCKY III in the cinema in 1982 here in Ireland. I was 9 at the time and I was HOOKED. Someone posted a link on your book in the StalloneZone forum and that's how I found out about it. I simply cannot wait until I receive it - the story of Rocky and Sly's movie messages have been the story of my life - about always fighting the good fight and overcoming often insurmountable obstacles.
The Rocky and Stallome message REALLY resonated with me in 1986 when I was 12. I was diagnosed with liver disease and had a very tough few years - eventually leading to two liver transplants (first one failed) in 1995 (incidentally the only time I was forced to miss a Sly film in the cinema as they wouldn't let me out to see Assassins). I watched Rocky during my hospital stay for inspiration and I owe my recovery to the genius that is Stallone. My dream is to go to Philadelphia in the next year or two and finally run up to those steps and see where the films were shot.
I managed to shake Sly's hand at the London premiere of Rocky Balboa and thanks to my journalism job I managed to wrangle tickets for the press conference which was held in a really posh London hotel and even got to thank Sly in person for inspiring me.
During the press conference in London for Rocky Balboa I stood up and thanked him for helping me through tough times - was one of the greatest moments of my life.
I also waited in line for hours in 1997 when he opened Planet Hollywood in Dublin, Ireland.
After my transplants I did a four year Journalism Degree in Dublin City University, Ireland and in my final thesis the acknowledgements page thanked Sly for his countless inspiration.
I own every Stallone film on video and DVD as well as all the books that have been written. I love them all but along with the Rocky's and Rambo's particular favourites would be Over The Top, Lock Up, Tango and Cash, Daylight, Cop Land, Get Carter, Demolition Man and Cliffhanger.
Your book will provide me with so much inspiration and I admire you IMMENSELY for writing it. I was ecstatic when I clicked on the link to your book - it encapsulates everything I feel about Stallone and his movie survival techniques myself. I think without Rocky I would not have garnered the ability to always get up off the proverbial canvas after a lifetime of health problems
CONGRATULATIONS again on your achievements in getting what I deem to be the best book written on Sly bar none !
Hope we can keep in touch.
TREVOR O'SULLIVAN, Mayo, Ireland
"The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done! Now if you know what you're worth then go out and get what you're worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits."
Eye of The Tiger is already reminding me of the hero inside myself.
It is a book that you always want to keep around to remind you to
GO THE DISTANCE!!! "

HEY GERALD what's up man? I had read the book Stallone wrote himself "Sly Moves", really liked that, always been a big Stallone fan and him and his movies have always really motivated me in the gym and in overcoming other obstacles in life. I just typed in a Yahoo search, 'Stallone's new book' to see if he had a new one in the works or anything, and I found yours, looked like a sweet collection of a lot of his quotes and thoughts on life, and connections to his movies, can't wait to read it man, glad to see other people out there see him as a rock solid role model and inspiration too.
- JUSTIN ROSIN, Cedar Falls, United States.
HI GERALD,
I GUESS EVERYTHING came just in time. Being born in 1980, naturally it has never crossed my mind to try watching Rocky in any case. Boxing was also never part of my interest anyway. I preferred to watch wrestling with all the different choreography and action.
My inspiration was Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. I read almost everything about him not missing his autobiography "The Rock Says…"
That was the first time I took interest in the Rocky movies. Like yourself, Dwayne grew up being inspired by "Rocky," and it was written in his book that he got even more inspired when he got to know that "Rocky" is actually written by Sylvester Stallone!
Being one of the biggest fan of Rocky, I guess The Rock is the only person who could bring a crowd to chant "ROCKY, ROCKY, ROCKY" in his own fame, I
believed that Dwaye is paying a very good tribute to Rocky Balboa by bringing the chant that was only in the movies to Live Action where "millions and millions of The Rock's Fans" will go "ROCKY, ROCKY, ROCKY."
My own interest sparked when I watched the final installment of Rocky, Rocky Balboa. I told my girlfriend, "I have heard a lot of people talk about Rocky before, I really need to watch at least this one to see what it's all about."
I am always a fan of inspiration and quotes. I became so inspired by the movie that I went on to purchase all the previous 5 Rocky installments and watched them all in 2 days. That really fired up my interest and my next step was to go out on the hunt to find a book about Rocky.
And that actually led me to your book. I couldn't leave it alone and kept on reading and reading, by now I have watched Rocky 1 over 6 times, Rocky 2 over 4 times and the others over 2 times. It was only later that I found that your book was launched not too long ago.
This led me to really believe that fate really does exist. To be honest, if I hadn't watched Rocky Balboa and got inspired to buy all the Rocky movies, I wouldn't have taken a second look much less to buy it.
Sylvester Stallone, has been my inspiration for a long while but has, blew my mind to wake up from my long "rest" and "retire from the Bum club" with Rocky. Anthony Robbins wrote books to inspire people, Sylvester Stallone wrote movies and inspired generations and nations.
And last but not least thank you Gerald, for compiling all the experience that one should get into an inspirational book. I cannot watch the whole movie again every time I need a sudden boost of confidence but I can carry your book around in my car and keep my mind and inspiration refreshed from time to time.
Living in the Eyes of the Tiger, ZAC KOAY, Kuala Lumpur.
GERALD, I AM GLAD TO TELL YOU THIS - your book helped me to wake up each morning feeling very hopeful and able to take 2 steps each day. It has been very helpful during my times of darkness.
I believe I have seen the light. It’s now for me to choose what directions to take from here onwards. I have watched Rocky 1-6 and continue to talk about this character. I have met Sly before. Of course, just a handshake to say hi. However, the spirit of Rocky of getting up to fight another day is the essence of things. Rocky III was exceptionally my favorite. He was up there and he lost his touch by being "too laid back" - glad Apollo came back and helped him.
As for the character, I truly love Rocky 1 and Rocky 6 - we saw human in them. It's finally the start and end of a good character.
When I was in Phily, I actually ran up the steps - mimicking his run -- in the winter - very gila of me but i noticed others doing the same... gosh...
Continue writing man... I truly hope you will do so - Your book has been very helpful during my times of darkness and it continues to inspire me… always. It’s fate that got me reading your book.
To every readers out there, I would say this book is a must read. It is easy to read and simply heart warming. if you keep an open mind.
This book is truly helpful to get you by, when you is down and out. I will be the testament to it. I am always a big fan of the book and will always be…
Hanging in there, JEFFREY CHEW, Penang, Malaysia.
FIRST AND FOREMOST congratulations to you! I just read your article in Starmag and I must admit that I am inspired by your work.
Most of us somehow or rather had expressed our thoughts in spoken or written words in many ways but to publish an unedited book all by yourself is a great accomplishment.
I had thoughts about writing a book before but it never materialized due to lack of self-esteem of myself as i have not achieved significant success to be featured or write a book.
Perceived perfection seems to be the stumbling block.
What you had done is ingenious. You had shown determination and courage to GO THE DISTANCE unpretentiously, Now success is knocking on your door.
WE SEE THE MYSTERIOUS events of Synchronicity entering this man’s life… just when all the options run out and everything seems to come to an end.
Meeting the right people, hearing the right words, reading the right books and being at just the right place at just the right time is what enables this man to continue on his path, to keep the faith, to believe in himself, to hold on to his vision and to keep his dream alive.
Follow Your Heart represents the individual, trying to prove once and for all that we all have great abilities within ourselves, while showing the so called ‘impossible’ becoming the possible, as he continues to pursue his purpose in life.
Upon the realization of this story finally coming full circle and for the dream to finally materialize, will justify the ultimate message of this story…that we all, as human beings have the ability in creating our own reality.
That the more we understand ourselves, the further we will go in life. That having a passion, having a sense of direction and that interpreting life correctly will show you just what can be accomplished when one finally understands the powers involved when you Follow Your Heart.

Hi Gerald,
YES I DO HAVE a copy of your book and I am enjoying it thoroughly!
I, myself occasionally extract quotations from your book to set examples and encouragement to those who do not realise their own potential and is always on the verge of giving up.
Yes, you have achieved your impossible dream. Well done.

Inspirational words and quotations from Rocky seem to bring the best out of anyone who believes in the power of positive thoughts and creating motivation within by placing trust in yourself.
JUST FINISHED READING your book and I love it. I think the summation of all of Stallone's life & movie principles are simply wonderful. Some I don't even remember seeing them in the movie and some I finally get the revelation of what it means... It's amazing how you put it together. I think it's a superb book !
An inspired reader, DONALD NG
Dear Gerald,
IN THE EYE OF THE TIGER
is a solid book with many positive attributes about life.
Every page is inspiring and every
chapter focuses on Stallone's Life & Films using his quotes and
examples as an analogy to our day-to-day experience.
For example, Rocky is an underdog
boxer who rise against “great forces” to reach the top.
In life everyone faces obstacles
and impediments. Everyone has their moments of gloom and doom.
But your book provides all the solution on how to climb from
bottom to the top, as inspired by Stallone’s Life & Films.
All the principles you
have outlined in your book are true as it relates to the
day-to-day struggles and challenges faced by every human being.
And not forgetting Stallone was
born with handicaps both physically and emotionally, so if he
can do it why can’t we?
This is a very good book
which I feel must be promoted worldwide.
- JACKIE, Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia.
GERALD, YOU KNOW I have been monitoring your Rocky project for as long as I can remember In many ways, your Rocky book and project has “Rocky” written all over it. I am glad you have not given up.
Suddenly, there’s that elusive light at the end of the tunnel Sometimes in life, when everybody has given up on you, that becomes the test. If you throw in the towel at that juncture, then the battle is over no matter how millions of excuses you come up with later. Nobody defeats you but yourself.
The principles you have talked about, written about all these long years have become part of you. Just go ahead and do it. This is your time. Your moment has come. Bask in it!

Gerald
Hi! Just read the article in the Star and thot I drop you this brief note.
I must first say "Congrats" for the journey and now finally publishing the book. I like your positive thinking AND also possible thinking mindset.
The way I see it, there are not many books on "possibility thinking" and your book has come right on cue! And for you to link it to a character as well-known as "Rocky" and Stallone, brilliant!
Once again, Bravo!

Here is the chapter list highlighting some of the powerful quotes from the book.

`What do you mean what you’re supposed to do after all these years together?,

CHAPTER 7: THE THRILL OF VICTORY
“I started to cry. I didn’t cry ` cause I was hurt or tired or sad. I cried cause the contest was over. Not the whole contest of boxin,’ but the contest of me chasin’ this thing for years an’ years. The pain, the blood, the fear. It was over.” - ROCKY II
"Comeback stories are the stories of my life." –SYLVESTER STALLONE
ROCKY DOESN'T CARE ABOUT WINNING. All he wants is to go the distance to prove he is good enough for himself and all the little guys pining their hopes on an underdog wining the big prize.
In the end Rocky loses the fight, but he is still on his feet as the final bell is rung which is his real triumph. Not because he loses but to show there is more than one way to win.
As Sylvester Stallone comes full circle in his life with the last outing of two of his famous screen legends Rocky ands Rambo, he leaves a legacy to the world; not with knockout punches or ricocheting machine guns, but a vital message of hope and redemption urging audiences to stand up and fight back for their dreams instead of watching them wash down the drain.
It is a miracle how Chuah, a Malaysian journalist living thousands of miles in South East Asia could tap into the pulse of Rocky and Rambo to unravel these living truths, as he saw the correlation between the actor’s life and films and understood every nuance of his words.
Driven by a mission to impart these powerful secrets to the world, Chuah religiously documented each and every point to inspire readers to get back on their feet and onto the heart of action, proving that our greatest strength lies within and is inspired from above!
With extensive research into newspaper archives since the 70s, books, magazines, rare documentaries and the internet, this amazing book reveals for the first time the survival principles from Sylvester Stallone’s Life & Films which offer a complete life guide, covering every aspect of living from love, faith, courage, dream, determination, wisdom and spirituality.
Get blown away with hundreds of powerful quotes with zen-like wisdom and hard-hitting poignancy unavailable to the masses until now, and impressive hand drawn illustrations of Stallone’s famous action figures from the 80s never seen before!
Run the last mile with Rocky and fight the last battle with Rambo with this book as they inspire you to reach for your highest goals and claim your total victory!
"I want to give the audience positive symbols, heroines and heroes who pull themselves out of the depths of despair." -SYLVESTER STALLONE
“Rocky turned out to be the kind of metaphor for everyone’s struggle. It wasn’t about me, Sylvester Stallone and money. It was about wanting to fail on your own terms. Rocky never thought he’s succeed. But like him, I just wanted to try. Little did I know that 20 years later, that philosophy would end up being respected.
- SYLVESTER STALLONE-
WHEN ROCKY WAS OFFERED the chance to fight World Heavyweight Champion Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) , he just wanted to go the distance and prove for the first time in his life he is not just another bum from the neighborhood.
He refused to be a fall guy in a publicity stunt but tried to seize the greatness that was suddenly within his reach. So he went into furious training for the big fight.
In the beginning Rocky has unarticulated pangs of hurt in his soul, But as he gained self-respect, his large liquid eyes light up, his hulking body seems to gain in stature ad even his slurry speech gains a primitive eloquence.
When the big day arrived, he was no longer some lowlife semi-amateur but a real contender, thirsting for glory. His story is a universal saga of an archetypal loser who by force of will, turns himself into one of life's winners.
INSIGHT NO. 2: IN THE EYE OF THE TIGER
THE EYE OF THE TIGER is a feeling, an awareness and a belief that there is something greater for us to achieve and reach for in life than what we seemingly are in this present reality. It is a call of duty that we must heed, a voice from our conscience that compels us to reach the destiny of our restless souls
A TIGER IS FEROCIOUS when it hunts for its prey. There is no fear and hesitation in its eyes. With total control and commitment, it goes for the kill.
The tiger is a symbol of strength and power which a fighter can identify with. When you are hungry like a tiger, you will have all the attributes of success -strength, focus, power, courage and determination.
I call this book In The Eye of the Tiger because it represent a unique life philosophy which expounds on the innate survival instinct we are all born with.
All of Stallone's famous film characters have Eye of the Tiger - a strong will and purpose, courage and determination to overcome the odds and get them from where they are to where they want to be.
Living In The Eye of the Tiger therefore is the most powerful state of being where you are in control of all your power and faculties.
INSIGHT NO.3: ONE MORE ROUND
“When I’m in the ring and I’m really getting hit on, God I wish this guy would hit me on the chin so I don’t feel nothin’ anymore. Then there’s another side that comes out that isn’t so scared. There’s another side that wants to take more, who wants to go that one more round. Because going that one more round when you don’t think you can, that’s what makes all the difference in your life.” – ROCKY IV
A PERSON IS HARDEST HIT when he comes to the end of the journey, when he is almost at the pinnacle of his dream. As the pressure intensifies, and the final blow is delivered, now it the ultimate test to see if he has the guts for glory.
Usually the last bit of any journey is the most difficult because it is the turning point of your life. Will you go the distance to change your destiny or will you fall back to your old rut.
Every fighter has to make that decision at this crucial point in time.
INSIGHT NO.4: THE NEXT ROCKY
Rocky, do you believe that America is a land of opportunity? Apollo Creed does and he’s going to prove it to the whole world by giving an unknown a shot of the title. That unknown is you. He picked you Rocky, it’s a chance of a lifetime, you can’t pass it by…” - ROCKY
ALTHOUGH 30 YEARS have passed since the first Rocky, the message from the movie about an underdog fighter going the distance with his dream still ring a bell, as everyday brings along a new set of challenges and opportunities.
In Rocky Balboa (the last episode of the series), as he walked out of the arena, the camera focused on his arm reaching out to a member of the audience. It shows Rocky has reached out to the real world, passing the torch to the next generation.
Also in the end credits of the movie, we see many people running up the steps of the Philadelphia Art Museum - kids, adults, young and old doing the Rocky dance.
I believe the next Rocky is not just another movie character but its legacy lives on in you and I as we go the distance with our dreams and by so doing, inspire others to do the same.
Writing this book has been an exhilarating journey to me. and I have included all the best thoughts and ideas I have gained from the Survival Principles from Sylvester Stallone's Life & Films.
As I imagine the picture of Rocky Balboa running up the steps of the Philadelphia Art Museum and celebrating with his hands held high, I wish you all the best in your future endeavors and may the Real Rocky spirit in you continue to shine. Go the distance always! Good luck and God Bless!
"It's high concept to say that Rocky is high concept (because it
enhances mankind)." – SYLVESTER STALLONE
